NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The often controversial Christopher Columbus statue is no more. The structure was officially removed on Sunday in a joint effort between the Ministry of Works, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Antiquities, Monuments and Museum Corporation.

You may remember, last year a man was charged with damaging the monument with a sledge hammer.

His actions caused a huge debate about the historical figure.

Director of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister Latrae Rahming says the goal here was to remove it safely.
