ABACO, BAHAMAS – Following that shantytown ruling from the Supreme Court, Works, and Utilities Minister Alfred Sears says the Shantytown Committee is putting together a comprehensive plan to tackle the issue.

He says due to international demands, the plan will have many sides.

His comments come after Chief Justice Sir Ian Winder ordered the demolition of only two structures in an Abaco shantytown.

That’s far less than the over 260 structures the Davis administration wants to be demolished.

Attorney General Ryan Pinder recently said the Davis administration would carry out demolitions using the process outlined under the Building Regulations Act, which falls under the remit of the minister of works.

He says the plan will not only apply to shantytown structures.
