ANTIGUA & BARBUDA – Antigua and Barbuda made history this week, not only for being the smallest nation to ever hold the Commonwealth Heads of Government, and for only the 4th time in the region, but also for its hosting of the first global summit on eye health.

At the closing press conference, host Prime Minister Gaston Browne made special mention of it.

Then there was the controversial, highly publicised issue of reparatory justice. Prime Minister Browne called for more dialogue without allowing it to divide the organization.

Commonwealth Secretary General Shirley Botchwey also highlights the more notable decisions and priorities discussed.

The Bahamas also leaves with a significant development, with Justice Cheryl Bazard named Secretary General of the Commission of Small Island States on Climate Change and International Law. Prime Minister Browne weighed in on the appointment.

With these four days of discussions and engagements behind, leaders including our own return to their respective countries knowing that above all else, the Commonwealth “family” of nations remains in tact.
