NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A convicted killer will be released earlier now that the Court of Appeal has reduced her sentence again.

Zaria Burrows was initially jailed for 28 years for the 2018 murder of Breanna Mackey, who was beaten and stabbed to death in a row over a broken cellphone, had her sentence cut to 14 years, seven months and one days after getting credit for remand time.

Back in 2022, the Court of Appeal resentenced Burrows to 15 years in prison after overturning her murder conviction and replacing it with one for manslaughter.

The Court reopened Burrows’ appeal last week after she challenged the calculation of the time she’d spent on remand.

Burrows used her car to block Mackey as she walked along Key West Street. Her accomplices exited the vehicle and attacked. Following the vicious beating, Burrows and others went to Gambier for drinks.
