NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who molested his stepdaughter in the marital bedroom has lost his appeal.

The man, whose name has been withheld to conceal his victim’s identity, was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for unlawful sexual intercourse with a dependent.

Jurors found that on May 5, 2018, the then 50-year-old raped his nine-year-old stepdaughter.

Public defender Brendalee Rae challenged the conviction on the basis that the same jury acquitted the man of three other molestation allegations.

The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction, saying that the trial outcome showed that the jurors considered each count separately as directed by the trial judge.
