SWITZERLAND – Swiss prosecutors have summoned the owners of a ski resort bar where a New Year’s Day fire killed 40 people.

Authorities are investigating the French owners of the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana on suspicion of homicide by negligence, as families of the victims file legal complaints.

The couple appeared before prosecutors in Sion on Friday, a day declared a national day of mourning.

More than half of those killed were teenagers, and more than 100 others were injured.

Investigators believe the fire may have started when sparkling candles ignited foam soundproofing, raising questions about missed safety inspections at the venue.
