COVID Causes New Year’s Eve Cancellations

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The pandemic putting a damper on New Year’s Eve celebrations once again. The spike in COVID cases and ensuing restrictions forcing event organizations to cancel plans and issue full refunds. The cancellations now leaving them all out of thousands of dollars.

It’s a bitter pill to swallow. After not having their annual New Year’s Eve event that usually draws people by the hundreds, partners at The Corporation were dealt another major blow just days before with new health restrictions forcing them to cancel.

With refunds already handed out, this was a major loss.

But The Corporation wasn’t the only event forced to cancel after the Ministry of Health said there would be no approvals for large events.

Over the weekend, flyer after flyer was released with either “postponed” or “cancelled”, including the popular “Lite Vibes” day party, which was scheduled for Boxing Day at Botanical Gardens. This past weekend it was postponed, but now it’s been canceled.

After spending on flights and accommodations for international DJs and vendors, Douglas now has to count it a loss, in addition to handing out refunds.

But there is at least one major event still happening at resorts.

A Doja Cat concert on New Year’s Day at Atlantis still on schedule for hotel guests and locals with tickets.

While none of the local event organizers wished to comment on the luxury afforded to hotels to continue, they are looking to next year and the potential to host events in 2022.

The popular “Hide” event was also one cancelled this weekend and now in the process of issuing refunds.

The Corporation, Lite Vibes and Hide organizers say they all had strict measures in place, including testing before and at their events.

However, with this latest restriction it’s on to planning and hoping for a better new year.
