NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The nation’s chief on the record over the country’s growing violent crime problem: six murders in the past week, adding to the country’s triple digit murder count.

Will this be a potential fall out for the country?

Amid what seems to be an increase in crime, Prime Minister Philip Davis said he doesn’t believe it will result in any fallout in the tourism sector and insisted it’s a contained issue that’s being dealt with.

The prime minister’s comments come after The Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association sounded the alarm over a U.S. State Department Advisory on the issue which increased from a level one to a level two.

BHTA President Robert Sands said the country must work assiduously and immediately to stamp out the “glowing embers” under the threat of running hot. Sands is now calling for increased efforts to combat crime.

Six murders last week added to the murder count now in the triple digits.

But despite the grim outlook, Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander says he doesn’t believe there’s a crisis.

The commissioner adds that police have been working hard to solve those recent murders, while urging those with information, that could help investigators, to reach out.

And while the work continues Fernander saying, police won’t be able stop every murder.
