NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Well-dressed crowds gathered in the grand ballroom of the Atlantis Resort on Saturday night as the Cancer Society hosted its 22nd annual ball under the theme “Essence of Africa.” Our Marlena Leonard was there and has the details.

The Cancer Society Ball is one of the biggest fundraising events of the year, and the co-chairs tell us this year’s ball was the largest they’ve had to date.

Under the theme “The Essence of Africa,” the decor and staging pulled guests into another world from the moment they walked through the archway.

Guests poured in wearing Bahamian-made designs and some even wearing dresses and accessories flown in from Ghana and Nigeria.

But of course, beyond the glitz and glam, the purpose of the night was to fundraise for the many efforts the society champions year-round.

The night saw a massive donation from Zamar Group, some $70,000 in kind, to the Cancer Society.

But for those of you who couldn’t make it, it’s not too late to make a difference.
