Cuban-American Jailed After Pleading Guilty In $1.2 Million Cocaine Bust

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Cuban-American man who was caught on camera receiving a cocaine shipment has been jailed for three years and fined $100,000.

Forty-eight-year-old Carlos Delgado will serve an additional year behind bars if he fails to pay the fine.

Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley handed down the sentence after Delgado pleaded guilty to possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply, conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply and conspiracy to export drugs.

Defence Force Officers stopped and boarded the boat that Delgado was captaining near the Prince George Wharf on July 24, 2023.

While searching the vessel, the officers found 61 kilos of cocaine, valued at $1.2 million.

The boat’s DVR system recorded Delgado receiving the drugs from another man at the Altantis Marina, the court heard.

Delgado said he was supposed to take the drugs back to Florida and he was going to be paid $10,000.

Delgado has been in custody since his arrest.
