NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A daughter is expressing frustration over the challenges she has faced trying to claim her father’s body. Monalisa Fowler says the system has failed her and now she’s exhausted and disheartened.

Fowler says after her father passed on February 11, she presented his National Insurance Board card and affidavit to the morgue to view his body but was instructed to go the Registrar General’s Office because the affidavit was not registered.

She says while she understands that protocols must be followed, the process of tracking down records that are in some cases are non-existent, has been frustrating.

Fowler says she was then instructed to bring the signatories on her father’s affidavit, one who is blind and the other who has no recollection.

She also claims she was asked to file for a new affidavit which she says she refuses to do.

Fowler now says she is at the point of giving up.

We reached out to the Registrar General’s Office for comment, but our calls were not answered up to news time.
