NASSAU, BAHAMAS – We delve into a significant moment in Bahamian history when a controversy prompted the then deputy leader of the PLP, to staunchly defend his party’s commitment to transparency.

The Prime Minister this week calling on local media to adjust their crime reporting tactics as the state of crime in the country now grabs international headlines.

Many took to social media to reflect on Davis’ comments during the 2012 General Elections Billboard Controversy. When the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) protested against the removal of billboards the party put up highlighting over 490 murders under the Ingraham led Free National Movement administration.

Then deputy leader of the PLP Davis, accused the governing FNM of trying to suppress the reality of the time.

During that time, the billboards raised concerns among visiting tourists.

This year, international media has been seen actively documenting the local efforts in combating crime, an issue the Davis administration acknowledges. A similar occurrence took place back in 2012.
