Decomposed Body Found By Man During Sunday Morning Walk

LONG ISLAND, BAHAMAS – A troubling discovery on Long Island has left residents shaken after decomposed human remains were found over the weekend. While authorities have not yet identified the victim, many fear it may be 82-year-old Plumetta Major, who vanished from her home in late September.
The remains were found near a tract road close to Deadman’s Cay Airport by 41-year-old Andrew Burrows, a resident of the community. Burrows says he was taking his usual Sunday walk to observe ongoing airport expansion works when he came across the body.
He told Our News that after making the discovery, he immediately informed friends nearby, who encouraged him to show them the location. Burrows says they later contacted police, who arrived on the scene shortly after.
Officers say the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition. An autopsy has been scheduled, but investigators have not linked the find to any missing person’s case on the island.
Still, the discovery has raised alarm for locals who fear the worst, especially given the unsolved disappearance of Major, who was last seen wearing a nightdress and a long brown sweater.
Her sister, Vernita Taylor, told Our News she believes the remains may belong to her sibling based on the clothing described to her. Taylor says the family has been living in uncertainty for two months and is now awaiting confirmation from authorities.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
