CHINA – South Korea’s data watchdog has accused Chinese AI startup DeepSeek of sharing user data with ByteDance, TikTok’s owner.
The personal Information Protection Commission confirmed the communication, leading to DeepSeek’s removal from app stores over privacy concerns.
The app, which rocked the AI world in January with its low-cost model and skyrocketed in downloads, now faces fresh scrutiny.
While existing users can still access it via a web browser, regulators warn folks not to enter personal information until the investigation is complete.
