ABACO, BAHAMAS – Simpson McKinney’s four-bedroom home sustained minimal damage during monster Dorian and became a place of refuge for 20 other people, four of whom he says were elderly.

McKinney recalls that during the passing of the storm, he noticed his neighbor’s home being torn apart and the family having to flee.

McKinney says while everything around his home was being battered by Dorian, he wasn’t afraid.

With more than two dozen people taking refuge in his home, he says the group came up with a routine.

Even after the storm, McKinney says he chose not to leave Abaco despite having the opportunity.
