NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The judiciary has made the first step in its infrastructure modernization project for the judiciary with the opening of a new Family Court Complex.

The new complex sits on Bernard Road near Kingsway Academy and according to Attorney General Ryan Pinder K.C., the new complex will house the Family and Domestic Magistrates Court, the Family Division, and the Probate Division of the Supreme Court and act as a mediation center.

Chief Justice Sir Ian Winder added the complex will add to the efficiency of the courts to move cases along.

While the complex is already in use, Winder says he expects judges to move into the complex by the beginning of January, and by summer 2025, the facility is expected to be fully completed.

Describing families as the basic building block of societies, Prime Minister Philip Davis who was also on hand for the opening, stressed the importance of investing heavily in protecting families and facilitating justice on their behalf.
