PUEBLO, COLORADO – A storybook collegiate career for Collinique Farrington concluded with a national title. The Southwest Baptist Bearcats senior clocked 51.63 seconds to win the 400m national title at the NCAA Division II Championships in Pueblo, Colorado. It was Farrington’s first national title and the first for the program since 2017.

Near an hour later, she returned to the track to finish second in the 200m in 22.83 seconds, earning her fifth All-American award. She also set new program records in both events.

Farrington and Stephaniqué Dean led the Bearcats’ 4x400m team to a sixth-place finish in 3:34.42 seconds, a new school record.

At the meet, Lincoln University sophomore Clinton Laguerre finished sixth in the 400mH with a new personal best of 50.70 seconds. He was also a member of the 4x400m team that finished second in 3:05.23 seconds.

Minnesota State Moorhead junior sprinter Shavantae Roberts earned her second All-America nod of the season when she finished 11th overall in the preliminaries of the 100m in 11.44 seconds. Her junior season also included program records in the indoor 60m and 200m as well as the outdoor 100m.

Michael Cartwright and his University of Mary Marauders 4x100m team became the first All-American relay team in program history, finishing sixth in 40.08 seconds.

National High School Soccer Championships Semifinals

The top junior and senior high school soccer programs in the country return to the pitch this week to decide the national champions.

We’re down to four teams in each of the divisions of the Samuel P. Haven Jr. National High School Soccer Championships. After this weekend’s draw, the matchups for Thursday’s semifinals have been decided.

In the girls’ division, play begins at 4:30 p.m. with games played concurrently on both fields at the Roscoe Davies Complex. The Queen’s College Comets will take on the Bishop Michael Eldon Warriors from Grand Bahama. In a matchup of champions, the GSSSA’s CR Walker Knights will face the reigning BAISS and national champions, the Lyford Cay Dragons.

The boys’ games begin at 6:30 p.m. with the GSSSA second-seed Government High School versus the Northern Group playoff winners, the St. George’s Jaguars. The other semifinal matchup is an all-BAISS affair – Lyford Cay versus Windsor School.

Bahamas 16U Baseball Team Competes in Latin American and Caribbean Zone Championships

Play concluded at the Pony Baseball 16U Latin American and Caribbean Zone Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Team Bahamas defeated Costa Rica but suffered losses to the Dominican Republic and the two teams that met in the championship game—Puerto Rico and Ecuador.

All but two of the players are eligible to return for next year’s team, leaving manager Donovan Cox optimistic about the possibility of contending next year.
