Fines to Come for Exuma Oil Spill

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A civil action could be on the way for the company responsible for that oil spill in Exuma and penalties, according to the Attorney General who added that the vessel that sunk off South Abaco was given 45 days to remove the vessel from Bahamian waters.

Months after that oil spill in Exuma, Attorney General Ryan Pinder saying penalties will be levied on the company responsible.

In July 2022, 35,000 gallons of diesel spilled in waters in Exuma.

The ship Mt. Arabian was supposed to offload 115,000 gallons of diesel to the island. Officials say the company was contracted by Sun Oil to deliver the fuel.

Pinder says the owners of the vessel have approached the government regarding the appropriate fines.
