LONDON – In London, a public inquiry into a 2017 building fire that resulted in 72 deaths is drawing a lot of strongly worded attacks on several companies and organizations involved.

Richard Millet, KC, lead counsel for the inquiry said the risks that led to the Grenfell Tower fire were well known and ought to have been known.

He used words like incompetence, cynical, and possibly dishonest practices to describe the building industry with weak building controls and the failure of the London Fire Brigade to learn lessons from previous fires.

He told the hearing that based on the evidence the panel should conclude at all 72 deaths at the tower in North Kensington were avoidable.
