Flood Waters Leave Dozens Stranded in Eastern & Southern New Providence

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Residents in eastern and southern New Providence encountered severe flood waters at their doorsteps Monday morning, in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Imelda.

One resident in Pinewood Gardens told our Denielle Miller and cameraman Allan Jones that it was too deep for them to get to her house, advising them not to go through there as she described the disastrous condition of her home after storm impact.

The system which was predicted to have rainfall of four to eight inches converted streets into lakes, leaving some residents barricaded in their homes and others seeking shelter, like one resident named Ronnie.

He told us that he was forced to leave his pinewood home at 1AM this morning.

” [The] fence is all destroyed, in there is flooded, nothing you could do…nothing,” he expressed

Over in Yamacraw, resident Ivan Rolle Sr. Found himself trapped in his stalled car. He was on his way to the grocery store.

Like many motorists traveling on the streets on Monday, he underestimated how deep the flood waters were.

“So I started to go through it and it felt good but I didn’t judge the depth of the road right there so I continued to drive and then all I see…lights on my dashboard, I stall out so I decided to call a wrecker,” Rolle said.

The tow truck driver was Basil Dean, owner of Mr.B’s Towing.

Dean told us between Sunday night and 10AM, he’d already towed seven vehicles from flood waters, and Mr. Rolle’s vehicles made number eight.
