FNM Slams Govt. Assessment Post-Nicole

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The Free National Movement says the government’s hurricane Nicole assessment team missed the mark. In fact, members are claiming the team missed a lot of the damage in their post-storm assessments.

The government’s assessment of Abaco following tropical storm Nicole was lacking, according FNM Leader Michael Pintard.

Pintard contends the delegation failed to go to the area of the island most impacted by tropical storm Nicole.

The sentiment comes after members of the FNM conducted their own assessment over the weekend.

The day after tropical storm Nicole made landfall, a delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper visited the Marsh Harbour Port, trailers behind the government complex, one of the shelters, and The Farm shanty town.

However, the delegation did not travel further north, nor did it visit any of the Abaco cays.

Northern communities like Mount Hope, Wood Cay, Cedar Harbour, Cooper’s Town, Fire Road, Blackwood and Green Turtle Cay experienced severe flooding during the passage of the storm.

Following their assessment, Pintard outlined some of the damage observed while on Abaco.

He also pointed to severe road damage in some areas.

North Abaco residents have long felt forgotten by successive governments.

The Opposition leader says it’s still prevalent among north Abaco residents.
