NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A former fugitive has been sentenced to 14 months in prison on drug possession charges.

Murder suspect Deangelo Culmer took the rap to a charge of drug possession with intent to supply following the seizure of one and a half pounds of marijuana on May 28 when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Raquel Whymms.

Culmer was charged along with Deon Brown. Police arrested both men after they stopped and searched Brown’s car.

According to Culmer, Brown didn’t know he had the drugs and had only given him a ride. As a result of Culmer’s guilty plea, the prosecution dropped charges against Brown.

However, he still faces charges of harboring an escape criminal.

Culmer had been the subject of an island wide manhunt following his escape from the South Street magistrates’ court complex last October.

He’s accused of the January 2024 murder of Rudishka Bethel and the attempted murders of Carla Bain and Lorenzo Sands.
