NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis now joins the chorus of crime advocates, pastors, and politicians throwing their support behind capital punishment.

He believes it should remain on the books and be enforced.

Last week, Education Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin said it’s unlikely we will see executions meanwhile, the church remains split on the hot-button issue.

The former prime minister says he’s looking forward to the day we see executions, adding that it will be a deterrent to the violence that has rocked the nation.

The Bahamas hasn’t seen an execution since January 2000 at the then-Fox Hill prison.

The conversation resurfaced amid a spike in crime with 14 murders for the year.

This week, the prime minister gave a national address, laying out a comprehensive plan to fight crime and gang violence.

Dr. Minnis says everyone has to play their role in finding a solution.
