NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Prime Minister Perry Christie defending the decision to send Bahamian officers to Haiti.

He says while opinions are mixed when it comes to international boots on the ground, security is imperative in handling the situation in Haiti.

As a member of CARICOM’s Eminent Persons Group, Christie says those conversations are ongoing with the secretary general of the United Nations.

Christie emphasizes that the intention behind having international troops in the area is important to understand.

He says the plan would likely have them being supplementary to ongoing training exercises.
