NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Police Staff Association Chairman ASP Sonny Miller has been remanded to prison pending sentencing after a magistrate convicted him of participating in a drug trafficking scheme in 2022.

Miller, who was on bail pending his trial, shook his head after Acting Assistant Chief Magistrate Shaka Serville convicted him of 10 counts stemming from the seizure of 72 kilos of cocaine and 15 kilos of marijuana on June 7, 2022 at Spring Point, Acklins.

Miller was convicted of possession of marijuana and cocaine with intent to supply, conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply, conspiracy to import drugs with intent to supply, drug importation and abetment to import drugs and he returns to court on February 24 for sentencing.

At the time of his arrest, Miller was the officer in charge of Acklins, Crooked Island and Long Cay.

Serville accepted the evidence of two Colombian pilots Cristhian Aristizabal and Cristhian Aragon that Miller helped them offload the drugs into the police Jeep until the U.S. Coast Guard helicopter arrived.

That’s when Miller pulled his gun on the men and ordered them on the ground before placing them under arrest.

Footage from the chopper showed the all three moving back and forth from the plane to the police vehicle as the helicopter approached.

Aristizabal and Aragon pleaded guilty in 2023 and were sentenced to 60 months as part of a plea deal.
