FRANCE – The trade battle is escalating fast as French President Emmanuel Macron is firing back at trump’s new tariffs, calling them “brutal and unfounded”.

He’s urging European companies to freeze U.S. investments, and is weighing a strong response, including digital service taxes and trade countermeasures.

Trump’s plan slaps a 10% tariff on most imports, with a 20% rate for the European union.

Macron insists Europe must respond with unity, and in a bigger way than its past retaliation over U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs.
