U.S.A. – Fredrick King took a look at the NCAA transfer portal, took a look and Creighton and decided to run it back.

After three weeks in the portal the 6’10” sophomore center announced his decision yesterday to return to the Bluejays for his upcoming junior season.

King’s playing time took a dip last season behind returning Big East defensive player of the year Ryan Kalkbrenner.

He averaged 2.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in just over 6 minutes per game.

King returns to a Bluejays roster that lost three of its top four scorers following an NCAA tournament that ended in the Sweet 16.

Out of the NBA Academy, the Andros native originally committed to Louisville before ultimately deciding to play for Greg McDermott at Creighton.

For the second consecutive year, Bahamians will have an opportunity to watch King play at home at the Atlantis resort.

The Bluejays will represent the Big East in the 2024 Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis, November 27-29.

Last summer, they also participated in a series of exhibitions against European and South American clubs.

NBA

Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Nick Nurse may not find the value in Buddy Hield being on the floor, but he still found a way to impact the biggest game of the season.

Tyrese Maxey’s late game heroics forced overtime and Philadelphia held on for a 112-106 win over the New York Knicks to force a game 6.

In the last 30 seconds of regulation, maxey made a four-point play and followed with a three-pointer from near half court.

Hield received a “DNP” for the second straight game, but Maxey highlighted his veteran leadership.

Baseball

Sebastian Walcott continues his successful transition to high-a baseball.

Just four days after he hit his first home run in high-a, Walcott followed with home run number two to close out April.

Walcott hit a solo shot in the first inning but it was the only run for the Hickory Crawdads in their 3-1 loss to the Rome Emperors.

In the majors, it was a tough night for Jazz Chisholm, but the Miami Marlins finally brought an end to that losing streak.

With the Marlins’ trailing 5-0, Chisholm was ejected in the seventh inning arguing a strike call with umpire Jansen Visconti.

The Marlins eventually rallied to win 7-6 in extra innings.

NCAA Track and Field

After a weekend of personal bests, Denisha Cartwright and Anthaya Charlton received conference and national honors.

Cartwright, a senior at Minnesota State-Mankato, was named NCAA Division II national track athlete of the week for her performances at the drake relays.

In the 100-meter hurdles she ran a slightly wind-aided 12.71 (+2.1) for the third-fastest all-conditions performance in NCAA DII history.

She also ran in the 4x100m, 4x400m, and sprint medley relays.

Charlton was named the SEC women’s field athlete of the week for her performance at the LSU Invitational.

The sophomore finished first in the long jump at a wind-aided 6.74m.

If not for the wind reading, the mark would have earned her the no. 1 mark in the ncaa in 2024 and moved her up to no. 4 on Florida’s all-time top 10 list.

She was also a member of the 4x100m relay team.
