NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Jasmine Newman-McKinney spent decades climbing the ranks in the airline industry, getting her start with Gulfstream International Airlines.

When the company was acquired by United and eventually rebranded as Silver Airways, she became one of the first Bahamians hired to work in their Bahamas operation.

She rose through the ranks to manager, but after years of dedicated service, McKinney along with several others journey came to an end on June 12th 2023 when Silver Airways suspended local operations.

And while she says she accepted the termination, the real blow came when it was time to collect her severance.

McKinney was then forced to take her case to court.

But despite the court victory, she claims payments have been inconsistent for some employees and in her case, nonexistent.

Silver’s exit from the Caribbean couldn’t have come at a worse time for McKinney, who’s been relying on the settlement to rebuild her home, destroyed in a fire four years ago.

Now, she’s making a public plea.
