NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Last year, the country’s murder count ended in triple digits and just three months into the new year the murder count continues to climb steadily.

Local funeral operators say it’s put a tremendous strain on the industry. 

Vaughn Jones, proprietor of Vaughn O. Jones Memorial Centre says the bloodshed has sparked some of the most overwhelming times for those in the funeral business.

Burying a loved one is also strenuous for family members left behind.

According to those in the industry, the average cost for funerals in the Bahamas starts at $6,000.

Llewellyn Astwood is Managing Director of Demeritte’s Funeral Home he says more and more families are choosing more affordable options.
