GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – April 1st marks the beginning of Child Protection Month under the theme “One Nation Uniting to Protect our Children”. In cases when children are not adequately protected or cared for, they are placed into the care of the state.

The Executive Director of the Grand Bahama Children’s Home, June Hutcheson is encouraging Bahamians to pay attention to the initiatives that will be highlighted during the month.

Hutcheson emphasized the importance of the home and the role it plays in caring for the children. From love and protection, to guidance and discipline, she says it’s all to help create a firm foundation for their future.

She adds there has been interest in adopting the children.

And, as the country recognizes Child Protection Month this April, here’s what Hutcheson wants Bahamians to keep in mind. “I want us as adults remember that we are adults. And, we need to care for children. We need to treat them as children. Provide a listening ear and guidance.”
