GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Grand Bahama residents are being warned to take heed to weather alerts and make preparations for the possible effects of hurricane Ian.

Ginger Moxey, Minister for Grand Bahama, issuing a statement Tuesday night encouraging Grand Bahamians to stay alert and monitor local news outlets for updates and directions provided by local officials.

“Let’s stay safe, take all necessary precautions, be our brother’s and sister’s keeper. Our prayers are with Grand Bahama and all areas in the path of this major Hurricane. We remain GRAND BAHAMA STRONG,” Moxey said.

As a result of hurricane Ian, the Department of Meteorology expects Grand Bahama, Bimini, Abaco, the Berry Islands and Andros may experience heavy rainfall, severe thunderstorms, gusty winds and possible tornado activity, as well as coastal flooding.

On Tuesday afternoon, Grand Bahamas was placed under a tropical storm warning as hurricane Ian approached the Florida Peninsula.
