GB Residents: I’m Disappointed with New Funeral Plans

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis confirmed that the State Funeral for the late Obie Wilchcombe will be held in New Providence at Christ Church Cathedral on October 12th.

Initially, the funeral was scheduled to be held at the Pro-Cathedral at Christ the King in Freeport on October 13th.

Now another funeral service is expected to be held in Grand Bahama to honor his life on Saturday, October 14th.

In an Our News social media poll, 67 percent voted that the state funeral should be held in Grand Bahama, while 33 percent say it should take place in New Providence.

Some Bahamians also reacting to the news on Twitter expressing their disappointment.

One user saying, “Obie’s funeral should happen in Grand Bahama, that’s his home and certainly where his heart was”.

Another says,” Yes, the family would’ve had to ultimately give the final okay for this but the optics of this is not good for the government”.
