NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Agriculture Minister, Jomo Campbell, says they’ve not forgotten the promise of securing land for those farmers selected to grow the marijuana plant.

The package of medical marijuana legislation was passed in both the Senate and House of Assembly late last month paving the way for a controlled system for cannabis use for medical and religious purposes, overseeing all aspects of the industry from cultivation to distribution.

The legislation will remove cannabis from the list of dangerous drugs, and allow for the expungement of records for individuals convicted of the possession of 30 grams or less of Indian hemp.

Campbell continues to call it a window of opportunity. Adding they’re now one step closer to making it a reality.

The legislation also allows for the formation of the cannabis authority.

Their responsibility? To issue licenses for handling cannabis and developing enforcement procedures.

I also asked the agriculture minister about concerns raised by the Rastafarian community and the possibility of a lawsuit.

Campbell says that’s an issue for the Attorney General’s office to address.
