GRAND BAHAMA , THE BAHAMAS – The stories and experiences that helped shape Grand Bahama are now being preserved for future generations.

The national museum on the island is one step closer to opening its doors, with local stakeholders touring the downtown facility alongside international partners from the region.

Our News anchor, Megan Shepherd, had the story.

Passing on history, creating cultural pride, and sharing rich, deep rooted traditions was the vision behind Grand Bahama’s National Museum project.

An initiative aimed at ensuring that the identity of Bahamians, particularly Grand Bahamians, lives on.

Deputy Director for The North at the Antiquities, Monuments and Museums Corporation, Geneva Rutherford, said so far, they’ve conducted over 40 intensive interviews with residents from all walks of life and shared invaluable information.

Adding another layer of expertise is partners from the Dominic Republic.

Through a translator, executive director of their national museum shares his excitement for the collaboration.

While director of national museum, Don Cornish, shared how Bahamians can benefit.

Cornish added that the goal is to create an indoor-outdoor experience that replicates history in a tangible way..

The Minister for Grand Bahama, Ginger Moxey is also on hand.
