Guyana: Deadly Dormitory Fire Was Arson

GUYANA – The Guyana fire service has confirmed that the fire which claimed 19 lives at the Mahdia secondary school female dormitory and left others injured, was arson.

GUYANA – The Guyana fire service has confirmed that the fire which claimed 19 lives at the Mahdia secondary school female dormitory and left others injured, was arson.

At the time of the fire, 56 children were reportedly at the dorm.

Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali at the news briefing announced three days of official national mourning with flags to be flown at half-mast in honour of the victims.

He described today as one of the saddest days in his life as president, as Guyana is in pain.
