GUYANA – Guyana’s president says the country is on track to become a global energy and industrial powerhouse, with oil production set to exceed one million barrels per day soon and to reach about 1-point-7 million barrels per day by the end of the decade.

Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali made the announcement on Tuesday at the Guyana Energy Conference in Georgetown, saying the government is moving quickly to turn energy wealth into sustainable development.

Ali says priorities include national energy security, high-value job creation, economic diversification, and major infrastructure including the gas-to-energy project, industrial development and a planned regional data centre.

Finance Minister Ashni Singh, added that Guyana’s sovereign wealth fund now holds enough savings to pay off the country’s entire external debt. He called the pace of transformation unprecedented.
