HAITI – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calling for international aid for Haiti. He’s also urging for more support for the Haitian police to fight gangs.

The U.N. Chief visited Haiti over the weekend to spotlight the crise as it struggles to combat violent gangs that have largely overrun the capital port-au-prince.

Nine months ago he also proposed that one or more nations send a “Rapid action force” to support haiti’s security services.

After meeting with Prime Minister Ariel Henri, Guterres stressed the need for the international community and U.N. security council members to provide support for the Haitian police.

Henry, who took power in 2021 days after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, has repeatedly postponed elections.

He has pledged to leave office by February 2024.
