NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The call for capital punishment is an unrealistic one, according to Education Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin.

Hanna-Martin says the jurisprudence has changed. The calls for capital punishment again resurfaced amid a spike in homicides.

During his sermon to the judiciary at Christ Church Cathedral, the very Reverend Harry Bain said he does not support capital punishment, but that The Bahamas is in a crime crisis.

Hanna-Martin said we need to find out what is causing the level of crime we’re seeing. During the opening of the legal year, many called for an all-hands-on-deck approach to crime.

Hanna-Martin shared the same sentiment.
