Hauber Twins Make History

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas made history at the Games as 14-year-old twin sisters Makayla and Yemayah Hauber of Eleuthera became the country’s first surfers to compete, making their debut in the under-16 girls’ division despite being unable to score on Day 1 due to a lack of waves.

NASSAU , BAHAMAS – The five-person team from The Bahamas marched in the opening ceremony, making it the first time that the country was represented in the Games, and then our young surfers hit the water.

14-year-old twin sisters Makayla and Yemayah Hauber, out of Eleuthera, made history, becoming the first surfers to participate in the Games.

The twins competed in the under-16 girls’ division on Day 1 of the championships, but unfortunately, they were unable to log a score because, ironically enough, it was a nice beach day, and they couldn’t catch any waves.

The twins will have the opportunity to show what they have in the repechage round.

Eliza Denning, from New Providence, competed earlier today in the U-18 girls’ division. And D’Andro Thompson and Isaiah Thompson, two 15-year-old boys from Eleuthera, are competing in the U-16 boys’ division.

We’re still waiting on the results.

For those unacquainted with the sport, the surfers compete in 20-minute heats and are judged by a panel of five judges. Scores from their two best waves are added for their total scores.

Three surfers compete in each round. The top two advance to the next round.

They go through six heats until they get to the semifinal and then the final.

Baseball

Coach Antoan Richardson’s Atlanta Braves fell 4-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies despite home runs from Ronald Acuña and Cam Riley. They were held down by Phillies pitching, logging only three more hits.

Jazz Chisholm had the night off for the Yankees, who beat the San Diego Padres 5-1.

BJ Murray had the night off for the Cubs, who beat the Miami Marlins 6-5.

And down in the minors, Kristian Robinson launched a home run for the second consecutive game. However, his Triple-A Reno Aces lost to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys 9-2.

And Daunte Stuart hit a single, walked twice, and scored a run to help his Jersey Shore BlueClaws beat the Hub City Spartanburgers 7-5.

Track and Field

Charlton finished second in the 100-metre hurdles at the Wanda Diamond League in Brussels, running a personal best and breaking her own national record in the process.

She completed the race in a time of 12.33 seconds, breaking her previous record of 12.44 seconds that she set at the World Athletics Championships in Hungary in 2023.

Charlton finished behind her training partner, American Masai Russell, who took the gold in a time of 12.20 seconds. And Megan Simmonds of Jamaica came third in a time of 12.43 seconds.
