NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An evening filled with song, tears and heartfelt prayer as loved ones stood shoulder to shoulder remembering Lauren Saunders, a young mother whose life was cut short in an act of violence before her unborn child ever had the chance to take its first breath.

Family and friends returned to the very spot where the 30-year-old mother of two was discovered. Her partially decomposed body was found on October 20th, just two days after she was reported missing.

Among those addressing the crowd was Dr. Latanya Jackson, a close family mentor and pastor, who shared memories of Lauren’s devotion.

“Her son Ty used to come with a big drum, and I would always look down the stairway waiting to see if she was coming. But no… I realize that Lauren is no longer here, but her spirit is still alive.”

Candles, balloons, teddy bears and handwritten cards were placed at the site as tributes. Lauren’s sister, Charmaine Edgecombe, described the immense pain the family continues to feel.

“There’s a hole in our heart. This is fresh… I can’t even focus. None of us can focus. My brother silently barely even speaks. It is hurtful.”

But perhaps the most emotional words came from Lauren’s father, Levi Saunders, who shared how much she meant to him.

“She was very, very loved. She used to call me every day. She’d say, ‘Daddy, how you doing?’ She would tell me she was on her way to church. I love her so much.”

Lauren leaves behind two children, who will now grow up without their mother.
