FLORIDA – A deluge of rain and thunderstorms swept through south Florida this week, causing road closures, rescues, and flight disruptions.

Starting Tuesday, the slow-moving low-pressure system led to “life-threatening floods,” including the closure of Interstate 95.

Media reports say a tornado touched down in Hobe sound with 85-95 mph winds, causing damage before moving into the Atlantic.

Power poles were toppled, trees uprooted, and homes damaged.

More storms hit Miami-Dade and Broward counties on Thursday night, worsening the flooding. The national weather service says it expects the rain to continue into Friday, with a flood watch in effect.
