NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In recent years, each remembrance season, the British Legion Bahamas branch has taken the opportunity to highlight particular groups of Bahamian veterans, groups like the Royal Navy, or the brave eleven women who volunteered for service.

This year, the British Legion-Bahamas branch highlights the Bahamian men who served in the Royal Air Force base, which existed in Oakes Field the second World War.

Some of the children of those men gathering at the residence of the British High Commissioner Thomas Hartley, who describes the significance of the season.

Patricia Collins, one of late comrade Carey’s daughters, says it’s vital to keep telling the stories of the past.

And she says now, more than ever, we can learn from the bravery and willingness to serve one’s community that came from these often unsung heroes.
