NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 41-year-old man who was jailed for two-and-a-half years for stealing a pack of hot dog buns is appealing his sentence.

Elkeno Wallace stole the buns, worth just $6, when he broke into the auditorium of East Street Gospel Chapel on September 13.

He pleaded guilty to shop breaking and stealing from a place of worship at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

Wallace’s punishment upset advocates, who hired Bjorn Ferguson to argue the appeal.

The matter was adjourned to  December 5 at the request of Ferguson.

However, after noting Wallace’s long rap sheet, the three-judge panel said that Ferguson was fighting an uphill battle to convince them to reduce the sentence.

Ferguson optimistically said he was up to the challenge.
