NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Amid the ongoing debate over marital rape and whether Bahamian laws should tackle the issue, House Speaker Patricia Deveaux says as an unmarried woman it’s difficult to have a balanced opinion on the matter.

However she believes the act of rape in general is a crime and perpetrators should be dealt with accordingly.

Last week when questioned on the issue, Former Attorney General Allyson Maynard-Gibson stressed to reporters the need for legislation to tackle the issue.
