“A call to Brenville Stubbs led him to a family tragedy as he discovered his grandmother lifeless in her home.”

It was an emotional scene this afternoon as the bodies of a man, aged 79, and a woman, aged 68, were discovered in their residence on Iguana Way. The deceased couple were husband and wife.

The shocking discovery was made by the woman’s grandson, Brenville Stubbs.

“This morning I got a call from my aunt around 11 o’clock saying my cousin, she’s at the residence of my grandmother in Carmichael Road. She hasn’t heard from her in a week. She needed someone to go there and check up on her.”

Stubbs said when he arrived, he met another family member locked outside and noticed flies around the house, prompting him to force his way inside.

“I quickly immediately hit the door with the hammer. I was unsuccessful, so I decided to break the glass.”

He then entered the home, opening the door for his cousin and mother. Once inside, they began to search for the couple.

“I checked the left side of the residence, which was the kitchen. It wasn’t no one in there. I followed the scent. My mom was the first one in front of me. I came behind her. I opened the two doors which was on the right-hand side. When she opened the last door, she discovered my Grammy covered up in a blanket.”

Stubbs said his grandmother’s husband was not in the bedroom.

“I was like, where’s the husband? So I started thinking in a different way, so I decided to go back inside. When I went back inside, my cousin said, ‘Hey, the bathroom door is closed.’ So when I went inside, I opened the door. I discovered he was on the bathroom toilet.”

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department carried out investigations and at this time do not suspect foul play.

Fire services also ruled out gas and air-condition leaks as possible causes of death. However, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

The entire ordeal has left Stubbs dazed.

Brenville Stubbs, grandson
“To me, I had to stay strong. However, I’m still staying strong right now, but when I catch myself and sit down, then this is a hard pill to swallow.”
