NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Law enforcement officers have taken nearly 60 foreigners into custody for violating the bounds of their work permits from a construction site that saw little Bahamian employment; the revelation comes amid a crackdown on work permits. 

That stern warning from the immigration minister after he revealed 56 foreigners were found on a construction site in a gated community in easter new providence

Bell says they were operating outside the scope of their work permits.

Bell also revealing the foreigners outweighed Bahamians on the site three to one.

Additionally, Bell says the workers were unlawfully being paid dramatically lower salaries than they should be paid.

Bell says the matter is under investigation.

Over in Abaco, 81 people were found with work permits for New Providence. 

He also revealed over $90,000 in immigration fees were collected.
