NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Officials from the Ministry of Transport and Housing along with members from the Bahamas Taxi Cab Union coming together to embark on a taxi industry service improvement programme in collaboration with stakeholders.

One of the outcomes of this new initiative is the long-awaited increase in rates for taxi drivers.

Transport Minister Jobeth Coleby Davis says the raise is needed due to the economic climate.

The transport minister also explained the current process.

An app is also underway for tourists and residents.

A few months back Bahamas Taxi Cab Union President Wesley Ferguson called for the resignation of Colbey-Davis due to ongoing issues that he felt were not being addressed.

Ferguson says the relationship has now been repaired.
