WORLDWIDE – Meta is rolling out what it calls its biggest update yet to Instagram’s teen accounts — guided by PG-13 movie ratings.

Starting this week, users under 18 will automatically be placed into a new “13+” content setting, limiting what they can see on the platform to material similar to a PG-13 movie.

Meta says the change is designed to help parents better understand Instagram’s content rules using a system they already recognize.

Under the new guidelines, teens will no longer see posts featuring marijuana, alcohol, or extreme stunts. Those who want to opt out of the 13+ setting will need parental approval.

Parents can also choose an even stricter “limited content mode,” which blocks comments and filters out more material.

The updates are rolling out now in the U.S., U.K., Australia and Canada, with global expansion expected next year.
