GRAND BAHAMA – The Grand Bahama Children’s Home is a vital organization in the Grand Bahama community, offering a safe haven for children who have been abandoned, abused, or neglected. This holiday season, every donation means so much to the children, providing them with care and a sense of belonging.

Operations Clerk Christa Woodside, who has been with the home since 2008, shares her thoughts on the significance of Christmas at the home.

“We want our children to feel loved. You want them to feel cared for, and especially during the Christmas time, when it’s such a time when they miss their families the most. So every donation that comes in, it makes them feel a part of home.”

She adds that the children are a joy to be around and their need for love is what makes the bond so special.

“It’s so hard not to get attached because they just show you love, and all they want is love in return. They don’t ask anything of you. Just treat them with love and treat them with respect. It works out.”

The home is always in need of more resources to care for the children. While recent donations have been appreciated, there is a constant need for financial support, particularly for food and bills.

“We always need your time, always need you to give back and assist us, but we also need funds… funds towards groceries because it’s very expensive housing children. The bills are crazy. You have to pay a power bill, water bill, food bill, everything, so basically finances and your service and your time.”
