“I’ve Expressed My Interest And I’m Ready To Serve”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Two men are reportedly vying for the Progressive Liberal Party’s nomination in the Golden Isles constituency following the sudden passing of Minister Vaughn Miller last month.

Among them PLP Senator Darron Pickstock, who confirmed his interest in the seat.

The race for the progressive liberal party’s nomination in Golden Isles is heating up.

According to reports, two men have both expressed interest in carrying the PLP’s banner in the constituency.

This comes after the sudden death of former area mp and environment minister vaughn miller on September 28.

While speaking with reporters today, Pickstock says he hopes to get the party’s backing.

 i have expressed my interest, um, uh, in, in that constituency and so i will leave it to the powers in the progressive leader party, uh, to make the determination, but i have expressed my interest.

Prior to his passing, Miller reportedly informed Prime Minister Philip Davis that he did not intend to seek re-election in the next general election.

Pickstok was appointed to the Senate by the progressive liberal party in 2021. He also serves as chairman of the Bahamas Agricultural Industrial Co-operation. When asked why Golden Isles, here’s what he had to say.

But he may face stiff competition.

Businessman Joe Johnson has also expressed interest, according to a report in today’s Nassau Guardian. 

Johnson owns Avery’s restaurant.   

While many anticipate a by-election to fill the now-vacant seat, prime minister philip davis has yet to announce whether he will move ahead with that or call an early general election.

Still, pickstock says he’s ready for the challenge whenever it comes.
